Week 5 (28/09/2022)
We had some lab time to work on our Honor Competition. Also, received some feedback from Ms. Anis.
Below is a little note from Ms. Anis' lecture.

What is composition?

  • Decide how to arrange elements or objects

The hardest part in the composition is how to arrange the elements in your visual effectively

Composed shots should consciously arrange the focus of the scene to stand out.

Think of the look and feel of the scene

Get the emotion in the illustration

INSTRUCTION

Create three artworks that imply "renewal of life" or "cultural celebration".

Progress

I chose "renewal of life" for the honour competition. Renewal of life generally indicates something spiritual, or physically reborn. However, I had a different approach to this theme based on my personal belief. I firmly believe that finding love, changing our outlook on life, and taking good care of our inner worlds could give us a chance to live a new second life.

Figure 1.1.8  illustration 1

Finding love in everything can bring inner peace, joy and appreciation.

Figure 1.1.9  illustration 2

Having a positive outlook on life can lighten the energy around us, and we live by absorbing the energy around us.

Figure 2.1.1  illustration 3

Make sure to maintain the inner world beautiful and comfortable, thus it's a place that we have to live in forever.

By going through those three stages, we can finally have a second chance to live our new life.

FEEDBACK

I had feedback on my first design, that it'd be better to have some same flowers from designs 2 and 3 to improve consistency and balance.

REFLECTION

Experience

Even though I had experience in illustrator before, I’ve mostly used only pen tools to create my animation because it was the easiest way. However, after a few weeks of learning how to use basic pen tools, pathfinder, shape builder, etc., I was able to create more interesting illustrations utilizing those tools.

Observation

I observed that I enjoy the process of creating shapes by using pathfinder and shape builder.

Findings

I found that knowing how to use shortcuts and tools properly is quite important to work efficiently in a given period of time.
